As I was taking a short cut through a local theater I saw a little tiny advertisement for one of my favourite Anime/Manga series ever, Trigun! My mind raced, “Vash and friends are back!” but for a one night only screening, that comes gunning into theaters on Wednesday June 22nd (talk about last minute advertising). This will be the first time in over a decade that there is an original animation (an anime) of Trigun, and the team couldn’t be better. Seems like Madhouse (the original animation studio) is back and ready to bring the fast and furious action of the anime/manga to the big screen, speaking of the manga. The original creator of Trigun (the manga-ka) worked with the anime writer on the script, that is based off the manga but seems to work as a “stand alone” movie/story, or a side chapter like story, which should allow for some wiggle room in terms of plot continuity.
Keep in mind that this movie has been out since last year in Japan, and there have been various screenings of it at various anime cons, in America. I do not know if there have been any in Canada, where anime that isn’t “Family Friendly” has been almost non-existent on local cable channels and when anime is shown here there seems to be quite a lag from the first time its shown in America to the first time its shown here (in Canada), which is sad really (as a number of dubs are actually done here, in Canada and the manga creator even visited a Toronto Convention a few years back as a special guest). *Update, while there was a screening at Sakura Con 2010 in America (before it hit theaters in Japan actually), it comes to the Canadian public in the form of “one night only screenings” before it does in America (which is currently scheduled for some time in July this just in from Anime News Network ). Awesome move Funimation!

Highly recommended if you’re a fan of the Trigun anime or manga. I believe this is available on dvd and blu-ray now with Japanese or English audio and subtitles in either language. Even if you aren’t a fan of the series or anime in general, there is still a great bit of fun and action to be had here.
