Last night’s Nintendo Direct revealed the slightly revamped 3DS model with 90% bigger screens, better battery life, a 4GB SD card and will come in both blue and red, while Europe will be enjoying a silver version as well. The top screen measures 4.88″ and the bottom touchscreen at 4.18″. Although with the increase of real estate, it does not change the resolution as it has the same resolution as the original 3DS.
Battery life has increased from 3-5 hours to 3.5-6.5 hours while playing 3DS games and 6-10 hours with DS games, up from 5-8 hours. While the Japanese and European versions will not have a packed in charger, the North American version will.
Japan and Europe will be seeing the 3DS XL on store shelves on July 28 while North America will receive it on August 19. The price for the 3DS XL will be $199.99 in North America. And if you want to check out the Japanese 3DS LL site, click here!

This is a much needed improvement. Price looks good too. There’s clearly enough room for a second analog stick yet Nintendo decides to leave it out….
