According to a source in Japan, The next Zelda game, set for release in 2014 on the Wii U is going to be a big undertaking. Nintendo will be sticking with more of a Skyward Sword-esque art style instead of going for the more gritty style that Twilight Princess had in 2006.
Zelda Wii U has the biggest team that EAD 3 has assembled. Hundreds of people are working on it and the game doesn’t even have an official subtitle yet!. This game is led by Eiji Aunoma, who’s been working on the game with the team since late 2010. It was originally slated for Q3 2013, but that goal of bolstering the Wii U lineup in the face of new consoles from Sony and Microsoft was not realistic. I hope the game doesn’t get delayed too many times like many Nintendo titles do, even though there is a need for refinement and polishing to make a game of this scope.
The scope of this game is said to be huge! The first dungeon is a forest-based dungeon and is bigger than Hyrule Field in Ocarina of Time. Some dungeons are so big, they’re broken up into 3 parts and takes hours to complete. It will also have mini games and side quests, but are still on the drawing board. It mentioned that the game is so large, it wouldn’t be possible without the 25 GB Blu-Ray based storage that the console will use.
Online content will be limited to some online features like Miiverse. Although the franchise will be in HD this time, it will not looking like the E3 2011 demo we all saw. Instead it will mimic what we saw in Skyward Sword with more refinement and is built from the ground up for use with the GamePad. All this will need to be taken with a grain of salt. Even though these are all “leaks” so far, it’s shaping up to be an amazing Zelda game, albeit there’s a two year wait for it!
