Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

Orzhov – A white/black guild that appears to be a religious group but are corrupt. They value only profit and power. Their new effect mechanic is Extort which gives the player an option to pay mana to have them gain 1 life and have their opponent lose 1 life whenever they cast a spell. It could be devastating late game where you have many Extort cards and accumulate plenty of mana for multiple Extort triggers.
Who would belong in Orzhov? Light Yagami from Death Note, Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts
Dimir – A popular blue/black guild shrouded in mystery led by Lazav. The group consists mostly of spies, thieves and assassins. Their new effect mechanic is Cipher which “encodes” a spell effect onto a creature. If that creature deals damage to an opponent, you may cast the encoded spell without paying its mana cost. Cipher in a way is a lot like the “Imprint” mechanic from the Mirrodin sets.
Who would belong in Dimir? Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed, Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid
Boros – A white/red guild which is also popular. This guild is the army of Ravnica with plenty of soldiers and knights. They believe in fighting for justice even if some rules are broken . They are led by Aurelia the angel. Boros’ new effect mechanic is Battalion which grants a bonus if a creature and two other creatures attack during the same turn encouraging attacking together. It resembles the “Battle Cry” mechanic from Mirrodin Besieged.
Who would belong in Boros? Samus Aran from Metroid, Master Chief from Halo
Gruul – A red/green unorganized guild with peasants and barbarians. Red/green is one of the best aggressive color combination and as such, they specialize in just that. Bloodrush is the new effect mechanic which massively boosts a creature’s stats temporarily by paying a mana cost and discarding the Bloodrush creature. In a way, it’s like having a creature act as an instant spell.
Who would belong in Gruul? The Incredible Hulk, Kratos from God of War
Simic – Many know of the Izzet, but the green/blue Simic are the other mad scientist guild of Ravnica and they focus their work on a more biological scale. They are resourceful and knows a lot about the human body (or any bodies). Their new effect mechanic is Evolve which lets a creature grow +1/+1 stronger every time a creature with better stats enter the battlefield. With time, these seemingly weak creatures can evolve to a menacing threat.
Who would belong in Simic? Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama, the Frankenstein monster
