Well it seems inevitable that LucasArts was not doing so great as of the past few years as games were hit and miss. The official statement is below.
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
It’s sad to see another developer go like this. For those who ahve been around long enough, you may remember titles like Fandango, the Star wars flight sims like X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and Battlefront. Although there has been many successful games, the past few years has not been so well for LucasArts. Games like Kinect Star Wars and the now Free-To-Play Star Wars: The Old Republic, a joint MMO-RPG venture with EA. And if you were wondering on the new Star Wars 1313 game, I guess it was double bad luck with the number it chose as it has been cancelled. Disney has shifted LucasArts from a developer to a licensing role. We wish the best of luck for the employees at LucasArts that were laid off. May the Force be with you all.
