The lead architect of the NES and SNES, Masayuki Uemura has passed away at the age of 78 on December 6, 2021. He had a major hand in creating the NES and SNES as the lead engineer and had a hand in producing games like Ice Climber and Clu Clu Land.
He had retired from Nintendo in 2004 and transitioned into a professor at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, which broke the news earlier today.
It’s a sad day to see an icon of the gaming world pass away.
Fans of the SNES classic Earthbound will be pleased that Earthbound is now available on Wii U eShop. Hopefully Nintendo keeps up with providing us with great titles from it’s past and fun, new content for the future as well!
